What surprises me is that people are just now 'getting it', when Microsoft has had their cards on the table for a few years now with XNA and Silverlight.

XNA has been around a while and was always designed for the cross platform PC/XBox/WinCE devices. The only thing that has changes is the portable device abilities and getting DX11 on Win7 so that XBox 360 features are now finally available on the PC.

If you're into console games and don't require rich user input that a Desktop can provide then this will be good news. If you're like me and have witnessed the coalescing of platforms and the negative effect it has had on the depth of gaming then it's further bad news. Making money is the name of the game and if you can teach people to be happy with a lesser experience, then you make more money and keep people happy at the same time.

I guess this is the "three screens and a cloud" vision becoming a reality. This is why I think its shortsighted for some developers to grumble that their WM 6.x applications are now incompatible with windows phone 7 OS. Think about all the new opportunities of developing new applications that will work seamlessly across devices with minor just coding changes. This will be a killer platform for developers whose games and applications can take advantage of these new capabilities.

This is truly very cool. Consider me impressed. Wow.
They weren't just settling for having Xbox Live 'anywhere'... this is clearly above and beyond. Congrats!

holy F*Ck!. this is good, really good. I'm looking forward to this. I think this means that we're looking at full silverlight/XNA implementation on Windows Phone 7.
