How to developer unlock Windows Phone 7

Long Zheng has the details of the developer unlock process for Windows phone 7. The process appears to simply involve registering the device as a developer device under your Windows Live ID, and only 3 devices are allowed for users registered as developers on the Developer Portal (which costs $99 per year).

Additionally applications can only be side loaded via Visual Studio or Expression Blend.

Down the line maybe, as far as getting more options and custimisations from unlocking but for sideloading, not unless everyone wants to install VS or EB. And really, I don't care about sideloading. I think going through one central location to find what I want is the best option hands down.

Locking devices to developers is as crazy as buliding cars that can never be stolen , because the
doors cant be opened !

As a professional Developer i need to asses technology prospect before investing in learning it.

Does anyone actually need sideloading? Apart from hacked applications from XDA, which will mostly have a an install method anyway.
