Windows Phone 7 email bug causes Exchange Server 2003 problems

WPCentral notes a new bug has popped in how Windows Phone 7 deals with Exchange Server 2003 (which includes the service behind the Hotmail Exchange Activesync support).

It appears when email from such a server is forwarded the email is not included in an editable form, but rather as an .eml attachment, which is less than ideal.

Microsoft has acknowledged the bug in a tweet, but it is not clear if a fix beyond upgrading to the latest Exchange Server is forthcoming.

The the mean time, a work around would be for Reply to an email instead of Forwarding, and then change the email address to the forwarding address.

I totally agree – we have an Exchange 2003 server and my WP7 will connect fine sometimes, but occasionally it counts to 70+ out of 140+ messages then dies with an EXCHANGE XXX Error: We're having a problem synchronising your information, Try again later.
Error code: 85002020

Clearly this is a problem with certain messages and the handshaking between a 7 year old mail server and a new windows phone 7 is broken in those cases.
They should certainly have made sure that THEIR phone works 100% with THEIR E-Mail server.

I'm having an issue with the email client ignoring the "reply to" header and replying to the sender instead. I just assumed Microsoft would have got email right so I didn't think to check before buying these units, now it's causing me headaches.
