Windows phone 7 email client compared to iPhone 4 and Android 2.2

Pocketnow have published another comparison video between Windows phone 7 and the two leading mobile OS’s, iPhone 4 and Android 2.2.

While Windows Phone 7 excelled at triage it did lack when it came to unified inbox, an issue I believe Microsoft does need to address sooner rather than later.

Brandon also ran into issues with HTML email, but I suspect this had more to do with his exchange server not supporting it than the client itself.

World exclusive: WMPoweruser.com leaks iPhone 5 which looks exactly like… the iPhone 4 ;)
    Please correct that, Surur.

Fixed. Sorry, was in a hurry :)

Here, I think that its a perception thing. I don't want a unified inbox. Never have. NEver will. I want separate accounts. So, I don't see it as the "Sky is Falling" idea that others do. I have a work account and a 3 personal accounts. All for different focus. And I want it distinct. I want distance.

And then it will be easier to manage. So what if I have 3 or 4 Mail Tiles on my start screen. There is plenty of space, since I won't need some of the default icons.

If others want a unified inbox, then MS may wish to provide an option, but not at the expense of those who don't see it as a failure of design.

The problem is in WP7 switching between accounts if more difficult, making a unified inbox more desirable. In WM you just have to swipe to the left, so its much less of a hassle checking 3-4 inboxes.

    • Danny

I agree. It should be an option, heck if only for the perception thing, but I'd keep the option not to use it as well.

    • Jake

Couldn't agree more and I really don't see why anyone would want such a thing unless they only have non-work accounts.

      • Diego!

I also agree. I want all my accounts separated. One inbox for each, just like I have on my Samsung Omnia II. It gives me more control and also I have my work account set up in my cellphone as well as my personal emails where I get emails from friends and family.

  • Danny

What about searching in email? Did I miss that?

    • Jake

Yes, it's a shame that that wasn't demoed although WP7 only allows searching through emails on the phone, not on the server.

In the latest beta version of Windows Phone 7 HTML works perfectly in Mails! Also with zoom functions ;-)

I don't think there was something wrong with his exchange server. He has to click to reveal the html content.

I don't think that applies to Exchange mail accounts, only HTML mail accounts like Hotmail.

Regardless, interpretation of HTML email is a client-side function, not a server-side function. The reviewer in the video had it right.

To be clear, the reviewer had it right that it was a client-side issue, not a server-side issue as the text for the video suggests. This later video at http://wmpoweruser.com/html-email-demoed-on-windo… shows that it's the "don't show foreign images by default" anti-beacon security measure in play.

I'm not one of those that wants a unified mail inbox, and I know that HTML mail will be one WP7 so WP7's mail client looks to best both iOS and Android 2.2 to me. Love how its broken down.

1 question. Can we default the email to be viewing on the Unread page or do we have to keep swiping over to the Unread page whenever we open the mailbox?
