Aside from the restrictions, the more I see of this UI the less I like it.

The text entry windows are very crude and ugly… both the boxes and the buttons. Why no shaodws? Why no rounded corners? I think HTC's Sense does a much better job and looks so much more modern than this. I like the inverted colour of Metrosexual UI, but the overall this looks crappy and too spartan in some areas.

Like the email app… looks almost as if it's rendered on/for an e-ink screen.

Like Lennard says below, lots of the UI elements in use right now are NOT FINAL. They've said before that the onscreen kb for example is just temp and not the final one. This build isn't even technically beta 1 I think, they haven't stated it is, nore is it said anywhere either.

I expect to see more of the final UI elements probably around May. The new line out of MS for things used to be "wait till MiX", not it seems to be "wait till June". So I figure we'll be getting near final code around then.

This is more like a 'working prototype'. Probably 'Alpha' now. I think there'll be Beta in June. Too many things are not working in Outlook for it to be called 'beta'.

Notice how many times the video states 'this is not working yet', This is related to the simple functions and not even advance or revolutionary features.

Well, you're probably right. It's a bit strange then that Microsoft is so openly showing off WP7 if the UI is still far from finalized. I guess it doesn't matter for them though, people seem pretty excited for WP7 no matter what.

Are things really going to change that much in the UI though until RTM? Seems like the email client is just black and white like that… very spartan IMO as I said before.

Plus, I complained so much about the ugly stock look of 6.5.3 and nearly everyone told me that that was just because Microsoft wasn't done and was leaking all the internal builds so I had to be patient. Guess what, they released 6.5.3 with those same ugly ass gum drop buttons. The only thing that changed in the 6.5.3 UI during development in any big way was the pivots in the very few screens that have them.

I'm not sure, I think if they're showing this off the way they are the UI has to stay more or less the same. And if it does I don't really like it aesthetically speaking too much… I've never used a ZuneHD, but isn't the UI more or less similar between the two? I wonder if the text entry boxes look like these on the Zune…

By the way, take a look at this link, it's what led me to assume this crappy Windows 3.0 look was more or less official:

I know the OS is not done yet and there's a lot of tweaks and fixes and graphics that will be added later on down the line. but I like what I see so far because it gives me a glimps into how they see their OS will be used
