Windows Phone 7 game wins award, nominated for BAFTA

Mush, a game by Angry Mango intended for the Windows Phone 7 platform, was a winner at this year’s Dare to be Digital award, an annual event organised and run by the University of Abertay Dundee, where teams are mentored by prominent video games studios including BBC, Blitz Games Studios, Cohort, Rare, Realtime Worlds, Rockstar North, SEGA, Sony and Ubisoft.

Mush is an atmospheric 2D platform puzzler that takes full advantage of the Windows Phone 7 tactile inputs, including touch-screen and accelerometer technology. Players can stretch Mush’s facial features with their fingertips to alter his emotions, shake him into a blind destructive rage and tilt the phone to move him around the world.

Dare to be Digital is organised and run by the University of Abertay Dundee. The international competition attracts students from across the globe to take part in the challenge in an attempt to come up with the next big game. 75 students had 10 weeks to complete their prototypes at Abertay’s Dare hothouse, before the ProtoPlay showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Entries to this year’s Dare to be Digital came from more than 80 universities worldwide. Winners were chosen by a panel of gaming industry experts during the three day event. Each team will receive a £2,500 cash prize as well as becoming the finalists for the BAFTA Ones to Watch award.

Two other teams, Team Tickle, and That Game Studio are nominees for the BAFTA Ones to Watch award.

Windows phone 7 really does have a winner here! I can't wait for this game it will be one of the first I will download. Microsoft need to snap up this dev before someone else does.

Noo, this studio should stay independent! Look what MS did with Bungie – it's been abusive… now they're still continuing the once excellent Halo series (seriously, Reach is such a mediocre game and definetely NOT the "most anticipated game of the year" !)
