facebook integration a bit slicker in RTM Windows Phone 7

Not exactly the most news-worthy picture above, but it is Sunday evening. The screen shot above is from Windows Phone 7 settings, and shows a new RTM feature in Windows Phone 7.

Previously there have been concerns that Windows Phone 7 users will have their contact books overwhelmed by hundreds of casual acquaintances from Facebook, due to the Windows Phone 7 Facebook integration.

New in the RTM version of Windows Phone 7 is the ability to only add Facebook integration to your existing contacts, thereby adding more info to your current contacts without pulling in new ones from Facebook.

Hopefully we will continue to see such refinements adding polish to the Windows Phone 7 user experience.

It doesn't appear to be the filtering ability that would be useful. It would be better to be able to have a per contact setting, but I guess that's hard to deal with when updating devices, and probably won't be used by many. This does seem like a much better bet than the previous option of having all facebook contacts creating new entries though.

PER CONTACT? with hundreds of FB contacts, this would be better for most people (like 99%).

this was the perfect solution. Either way, you shouldnt be adding people on facebook you dont want to be in contact with…. but whatever, Microsoft has your back either way.

I need more control though. I need to be able to import *some* contacts from Facebook that are not yet on my phone. More importantly, many many people change up their name on Facebook… how will WP7 handle mismatched names (or email addresses if that's what it uses)?

theres a button in any contacts profile that links that contact with another one. you can manually merge contacts
