Windows Phone Developer Toolkit updated for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has announced the release of the Windows Phone 8 version of the Windows Phone Toolkit.

The Windows Phone Toolkit provide an additional package of controls that developers can use with the Windows Phone SDK to easily add useful controls to your Windows Phone app.

The updated toolkit of course contain bug fixes, but also new sets of controls for Windows Phone 8, such as multi-select for images that replicate the native Windows Phone 8 controls.

The new toolkit can be downloaded from CodePlex and will install  exclusively through NuGet.

The package contains the Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 toolkits in a single package, and adds new controls such as:

  • MapExtensions (WP8 only)
  • Various Effects/Transitions
  • CustomMessageBox
  • RatingControl
  • LongListMultiSelector – List Layout (WP8 only)
  • LongListMultiSelector – Grid Layout (WP8 only)
  • ExpanderView
  • ListPicker
  • HubTile
  • DatePicker
  • TimePicker
  • ContextMenu
  • ToggleSwitch Control
  • AutoCompleteBox
