Windows Phone getting a new logo?

305737032

Michael Gillett from MyMiCrosoftLife.com has noticed this new Windows Phone logo popping up on a few locations at the London Mango event, suggesting that it may be the new official look of the juicy OS.

While the square look is more in keeping with the start screen, it does not appeal to me as much as the earlier circle.

How do our readers feel about the logo? Let us know below.

I like it better. It looks more modern.

I agree. It looks fresh, and in tune with the rest of the OS. The circle reminds me of Windows Mobile, and of the actual Windows desktop OS, to which WP has no resemblance.

I noticed this and was about to send it in as a tip, but thank life for quicker individuals. :) I like this much better than the old logo. The old circular logo with the blue gradient reminded me of Windows Mobile and didn’t really feel “right.” This one feels fresh, minimalistic, modern, and can be easily associated with Windows Phone instead of the round start menu button on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

For reference, here’s the old logo.

Actually that’s the WM6.5 logo. This is the current one: (sorry for the squishing, Disqus did it that way)

I like the new logo, it has a tile and seems more fitting for the OS. But for some reason I feel like I’ve seen it before.

i think its just a mango logo, considering the color is mango.

    Also a ‘Liker’.
Looks like you’re on your own Surur :)

I like it, but, I really don’t care what they do to the logo as long as they keep packing features in the OS!

  • X-mint

I think the logo represents the use of Tile UI and Metro

    Oooh, lookie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZML1LzClT4
Check out the back of the smartphone in the beginning of the video.

The full logo is also at the very end. I’m not sure why we’re all using the grainy image as the main image of this article when we can just use a screen capture from that video…

I like square logo better. It is more metro design and close to WP user ineterface.

If it makes you feel any better, Surur; I also prefer the old logo.

I like the earlier one a lot better.. this one is way too simplistic

I always hated the faux-sphere logo. This one is definitely more Metro-ey.

Liked the circle one much better … matched the desktop windows logo and in general, circles are more appealing to the eye …

It should be green and circular. What is this imposter?!

  • OmniaFan

The new logo is much better.

It’s very ironic and makes no sense at all that the only gradients, fault 3d effects and round shapes of the entire OS is in the LOGO of the OS.

I’m sure Windows 8 tablets will get these logo to because it represents the metro UI and tiles.

i think sphere logo was better

Nice but a circle would’ve been better, they should have made the first logo but in metro style, blue/circle and that’s it.

Seems to be more Mango related. Probably will change after the update. I love both equally.

I thought I remembered seeing the red logo somewhere: https://twitter.com/#!/windowsphone Very prominently, too!
