Comscore has released their regular monthly US smartphone market share numbers.

In August the combination of Windows Phone and Windows Mobile has managed to not slide further, settling at the same 3.6% as last month. With 116.5 million smartphone users in USA, this means around 80,000 more, or around 4.19 million users in USA are using a Microsoft OS on their phone.

The improvement may be due to discounting of current Windows Phone stock in USA, a strategy which has been surprisingly effective at moving Windows Phone stock, as can be seen in recent Kantar numbers.

The run up to Windows Phone 8 may result in further erosion of Windows Phone numbers, and it remains to be seen of Windows Phone 8 will finally be the thing which moves the needle for Windows Phone in USA.
