Windows Phone Marketplace Reaches 50,000 Applications Mark

Windows Phone Marketplace has reached an important milestone of 50,000 apps published as of today. This is not an official number from Microsoft but from All About Windows Phone which tracks Windows Phone Marketplace. Just a month ago, Windows Phone Marketplace reached 40,000 apps mark and December month boosted the app numbers better than expected.

According to AAWP,

The Windows Phone Marketplace has now passed the 50,000 app and games submission mark. Content is being added at the rate of 265 items per day. At the time of writing, 50,126 items have been published. Of these, 17,276 were added in the last 90 days and 8,010 were added in the last 30 days. These items come from 13,002 different publishers.

The 50,000 mark, which has been reached sooner than we estimated, is a key milestone, but more important is the accelerating growth of the Marketplace. It took just over a year to get to 40,000 apps, but just 40 days to add the next 10,000 apps. That bodes well for Windows Phone in 2012.

Wonder how that compares to the other OS’s.

Yesterday I was looking for a Tip Calculator and found myself drowning in a sea of ‘me too’ apps, unable to find one that stood out as special. Hence I celebrate this milestone with some trepidation…

I agree there are alot of duplicate utility apps and RSS readers. Some publisher is publishing one CNN app per news category when I recently checked the marketplace. That’s just ridiculous.

I just hope this keeps people from bitchin’ about the lack of apps on Windows Phone. I find everything I need and I’m thrilled we’re getting more apps that I can imagine a use for.

Well, either way, I think once it does reach the 100,000 mark, anyone who says they don’t have enough apps is truly full of shit.

Great ! This should be encouraging for both WP7 uses and developers alike.I hope it doesn’t include the “duplicate” apps since that problem has plagued the marketplace for a while now, despite measures taken by MS to alleviate the same.Someone pointed out an instance as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

There are only a couple of apps that I want that I don’t have. A true Pandora app (maybe) and Mint.com. There are other finance type sites but we have all our info on Mint. Either way, 50k apps is great progress.

patiente, Skype is being integrated in the next version of the OS (apollo). It’s taking a while because they want to completely integrate it into the system and not just release an app for it

I hope they will release an app and integrate later. Not all customers can wait that long. And also, not all know what tango is. They would just say, there’s no skype.
