Definitely would like to see MS make this, hopefully the first step to them making their own phone.

I think that it is always important to have a non cellar base platform. Not ever person can afford a cellar plan and for the younger audience. I am a father and I will not be buying a nice WP7 for my kid. Kids are too rough with things cell phone breaks no and you not in the upgrade period of your contract then what.

Samsung are doing it with their Galaxy range. Hopefully there will be a tablet too. I see this being released by Easter the next big holiday after Christmas.

I think MS showed us how good it can make stuff with the Zune line, both hardware and software. The reason it didn't pick up as much as the iPods was because of shift in focus of the iPod to apps and the internet, whereas ZuneHD was still the media device. Of course, the audio+video of the Zune is much, much better than iPod's, but only people with eyes and ears realize that, not the blind and deaf public which was chanting 'Apple' And now, with the 2010 iTouch bringing in video calling, and picture + video taking, the new Zune is going to have that much more to live up to. Hopefully, the WP7 base will allow it to have an app base.
If they don't launch new hardware, I'd be grateful if they release an update to ZuneHD which allows us to load WP7 on it.

I think Microsoft is building its own phone to run Windows Phone 7.

Based on my reading of the full ad, a mechanical engineer would likely be designing how the internal components fit together. That device could well be a phone and a mechnical engineer would not need any telephony experience.

Furthermore, the ad said "Interface across multiple disciplines (e.g. Program management, Industrial design, Hardware, Component Engineering, RF, Reliability, Procurement and Manufacturing) in selection of devices for detailed development". That "RF" piece could be alluding to telephony; it could also just mean WiFi and/or Bluetooth, too, but you can't assume that it's NOT a phone.

I'm not saying that it's NOT a Zune HD2, but that posting could go either way. It would certainly make sense to have an iPod Touch competitor along with an iPhone competitor.

The next generation of windows phone sounds like it is going to be pretty good. I always thought the zune was a good product, but it never seemed to pickup market share.
