Wireless Power Consortium release Guidelines for Qi wireless car charger

3

The Wireless Power Consortium has developed a set of guidelines to assist developers of wireless chargers for the automotive aftermarket.  The guidelines will help OEMs make attractive and functional Qi automotive chargers that will work with a wide range of handsets, such as the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820.

The recommendations include those for safety and also for such elements such as ensuring correct alignment of the phone and the charging coil.

Qi-certified products that meet all requirements in these guidelines would be marked with  “Meets Qi Automotive Aftermarket Guidelines”.

The guidelines is mainly for 3rd party chargers, but OEMs may also include chargers in cars directly, such as the Phillips and Lite-On centre console with Qi charging mat in the picture above.
