WP7 Build 6176 Demo

With all the changes Microsoft is bringing to our favorite OS… Windows Phones, Pocketnow had some time to do a video demo. The video is a very detailed version of what we already know from our last post. My buddy Brandon takes you through the newly activated Dialer, to show you how it looks, and how it works in the background.

He follows that with a preview of the Office application, HUB, and more. Thankfully, I do not like being a spoiler, so watch the video and comment below on these new changes Windows Phones has, and if its good enough for you.

Not much I haven't seen before, but the thorough Word demo was nice. Word looks pretty terrible. So much work to do. So little time.

it's going to be a lot of fun editing word documents without copy and paste or some form of arrow keys (even if it's just arrows in the SIP a la HTC SIPs). That said, integrating spell check with what looks to be the SIP word suggestion is a fantastic idea. If they can get the little red squiggly lines going, that's a definite plus.

Still when I compare this to what I can already do on WM 6.5…….Sigh. It's going to be a long time before WP7 has anything compelling to offer the enterprise other than multiple Exchange accounts, which really isn't all that important.

I have actually used a prototype with an updated version of the software and what i found was that although there are no arrow keys on the key board, if you press and hold on the screen then a cursor will appear above your finger which you can place anywhere in the typing space to edit a document.

Just wondering, do anyone know if you'll be able to put like a background image at the homescreen and such instead of all plain black?

On the home screen, no. Hubs will have backgrounds though but at this point it's doubtful you'll be able to choose.

I know it sucks but it's all about building the brand. They want people to be able to pick up any WP7 device and see the same thing. For those that want extra customization I'm sure that a jailbreak won't come that far from release that'll bring back all of that user customization that is customary to wm6.x handsets.

1 thing that i don't really understand. What if there are lots of apps or, the user pins lots of shortcuts to the start screen? Doesn't the screen get too "long" to scroll to look for the particular programs, contacts, etc the user is looking for? Is that where the search comes in?

I also notice that while the radio is on, when you press onto the window logo, the radio ends and take you back to the home screen? Does that means there is not way to let the radio stays on while one do other things?

All first party programs such as the radio, zune, etc will all be able to run in the background. So on the actual device it'll stay on.
