Dell Lightning. My best choice so far.

  • clind

I'd second @chmun77, the Dell Lighning looks the best of the lot. If the original renders from Engadget are real, with the slid down keyboard, then I can't wait.

  • milad

all garbage devices…still waiting for some real high-end hardware….it would really suck to have a great OS but have OEMs that don't try hard enaugh because they are not convinced….

but from those devices, I would say Dell Lightning seems to be the closest thing to ok. But I can't believe that ONE YEAR after the HD2, the new phone specs are equal at best…and worse in most cases.

    • A.D

      Right there with you buddy.
I want to get me a WP7 but what I have seen in terms of hardware..??? Not convincing so far!

    • lkl

This is a brand new and completely redesigned phone from the ground up and I believe that if given a chance it will compete. The phones aren't garbage and some right out of the chute are better than some of the top phones out there. Give them a year and I bet they will be knocking out Rimm (Blackberry) door.

  • Drewidian

You know… All of these devices only have 256 MB of RAM (except the lightning).. It is clear that if multitasking is implemented (and it probably will) that you will have a very limited amount of applications you can use at the same time. I expect that gen 2 devices will have a t least 512 MB and additional storage. 8 GB is extremely insufficient, especially without microsd slots. I know you will get 25 GB of storage online from MS, but that is for files and pictures. Videos, Apps, and Music you already own will have to be local. I still don't know how they expect that to work. That's why I say Gen 2 devices will be more practical. Now MS has probably said they only want 8 GB initially because it will force more Xbox live, Zune Pass subscriptions, and use of Sky Drive, justifying the extra money they laid out for the infrastructure, but that's just my deduction for the storage limit in comparison to other manufacturers who have 16, 32, and potentially 64 GB versions planned or available. I'm just saying my 2 cents.

    • john h

they all have 512mb of ram, read the specs again!

    • http://www.irelandstechnologyblog.com/ Colm

They all have 512mb, minimum requirement, even at 250mb ram if the OS is good enough thats more than enough to allow multitasking. Symbian phones can have 40 apps open with issue on 250mb of ram.

  • adp

where's the LG panther? and the Asus?

    • http://wmpoweruser.com wmpoweruser

Well, the Asus device does not have a name, which makes it difficult to create a card for. As for the LG Panther, I really do not believe it will be an actual released device.

      • killadonut

        What about the Samsung Cetus?

  • http://twitter.com/Kedrov @Kedrov

    What about hd2?

  • http://twitter.com/CodeSe7en @CodeSe7en

Any word on Micro SD slots on any of these bad boys? Can't WAIT for my WP7!

    • Fanboi

No MicroSD slots on any of these devices!

      • http://www.facebook.com/rightwing2core Taber Stewart

you are an idiot, the lightning specifically says "micro sd".

        • l3v5y

There will be no WP7 devices with user replaceable memory cards.

          • http://www.facebook.com/rightwing2core Taber Stewart

That is not true. Im not sure were people keep hearing that but it was not listed as a requirement by MS.

          • microhaxo

No, there will be no removable storage. It is a guideline to the hardware.

  • Robbie

We have already seen the ASUS phone demoed in an article shown on this site with aprogrma manager confirming it being on the shelfs before christmas.
So for good measure you should add the Asus phone even though it specs are still unknown

  • coolgamer512

    where's my sprint dell lightning

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001402667710 Juan Covarrubias

The HTC T8788, Samsung GT-i8700 & the Asus are my top picks so far, not blown away. I would probably opt for the Dell Lightning though… I prefer the specs… I will wait and see :) Glad I'm not tied to a contract at the moment… waiting for the holidays to roll around and get myself hooked up with one of these phones

  • A.D

WP7 needs to convince OMS to come up with a sexy beast to gain traction at launch!!!
So far,… unless they have a little surprise in store, which btw don't think is the case, they are not doing a good job.
That awesome OS really needs a high end piece of hardware to go along!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/boima.harris Boima B Harris

There are a lot more leaks but you guys only have 4 devices…here….Update please…makes it easier to decide which one to get when they are all on one page….

  • techieg

Here is the ultimate brushed aluminium chassis WP7 device by ASUS on video (not listed above); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPeszM_IjdE&fe…
….even the other version of it that is not aluminium, used for all WP7 demos is also not listed above.

I've read that the HTC Gold/Mondrian is/are (it's never been confirmed whether these are the same device or different versions of similar devices) supposed to be the showcase devices for the WP7 launch. I was wondering whether the Mondrian might have been a developer code name or an otherwise mythical device before the leaked AT&T commercials mention it specifically. I am leaning toward a HTC device, but I won't rule out going with Cetus.

  • Billy C

Chassis 2 for me. Love the new HTC Treo like phone.

  • Not impressed

I'm a little upset. These phones have the same specs as phones out already. My service provider won't stock WM7 devices until 2011. I was going to wait until next year thinking these phones were going to be on superior devices, but the Droids out right now have the same specs, some have even more with 8mp cameras. I love Window Mobile, been with it since 2003 with my Ipaq H3700, to my XV6700 to my Touch Pro 2. I guess it is time to say goodbye. I'm not going to wait for something that is not on a machine more capable to devices out right now. I'm getting a DROID X.

    Good For You!

  • http://twitter.com/victoroos @victoroos

no info about will there be a sd card slot or not?????

  • Hugh Jass

These specs above are the MINIMUM specs Windows requires. No one knows the actual market final specs yet. nothing is officially announced yet. I'm gonna guess that when we see the unveiling's we will be presently surprised by higher and faster numbers. These companies want to sell these phones. They will max them out I'm sure.

  • -G-

I think the HTC Surround is actually 3.8", this is the only place that I see 3.6"

  • -G-

I wouldn't complain, Canada always gets the bottom of the pile. I WISH we could have any one of those 3 phones for launch.

  • rudy

my choice would be the hd7 pro, if it's available for the european market.

  • tarun

    WP7 is Wooooooooow!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mlococo Michael A. Lococo

Any word on a 4G Windows Phone?

  • Paul

I have the HTC Trophy 7, everytime the phone connects with bluetooth 2 my Volvo, the phone automatically resets, is this normal @HTC? Everything else is PERFECT, Really good phone!

  • Soon Studios

    Trophy is the best

  • Dan

I am looking for a 4G WP7 (or Android) with a portrait slider running CDMA that I can use on Verizon (LTE). I don't know why there are not more of these on the marketbut many of us like the option of being able to type with one hand. I know the Dell Venue Pro is one option but is there any word on HTC coming out with a portrait slider?

  • Jules

Which models can I connect my Kinnect to ?

  • kittu

Anybody know Windows phone 7 new application related to time scheduling. please post it.

  • stevenson

Hi this is stevenson , I Heared one application that is related to time , Activity tracker for windows phones

  • moni

Yes I found one application for timescheduling and tracking. U can find below link http://activitytracker.lartsoft.com/

  • Wes Halton

I am in the UK and have had my HD7 just over 2 weeks now on an O2 contract, which means it has 16gb card as standard rather than 8.

I can honestly say I am delighted with its performance and the ease of use, I can't wait to get my hands on some SatNav software like IGO to try as I am wanting to combine the use of my Nokia N96 and a HP6915 Ipaq running 6.5 into this one new phone. With lots of new apps appearing every day for me this is a real winner !

Gripes ? One is that I find it too easy to smear grease off my fingers over the camera lens, which makes photos blurred beyond belief, so perhaps it could do with recessing a little more. Another is that somehow I unwittingly keep turning the phone from ring to vibrate.

I would also like to see some means of having phone profiles, Yes there is aero mode which basically means silent, but if in a powered car cradle its not possible to keep the screen lit and unlocked without going into the menus which is a bit of a pain to say the least!

  • ramu

Hi, This ia ram, i am using wp7 application on time scheduling.

Your HTC Mozart info is incomplete. You make no mention of the 16Gb version of the Mozart. Model number is T8698 hardware rev 0004. Mine came with German DT firmware – since de-branded due to DT's failure to release NoDo.

  • Omnia 7 fan

I’m using the Omnia 7 and it’s great. I was dead set on the HD7, but after seeing both side by side, the rich colorful screen on the Samsung, made it a no brainer! Everyone that see it, love it and ask, where can they buy it. It’s talk time is much longer than 3hrs, I did 5hrs throughout the day and didn’t have to charge it until the next day. I do notice, if you have WiFi and/or all the services to on all the time, can drain the battery easily.

Mango is doing good. And, Nokia-Microsoft strategic collaboration will make it happen soon. And, very soon we are going to see exciting new faces of Windows phone7 designed and developed by biggest hand-set manufacturer of all time Nokia. Now it is turning time for smart phones. :)

Currently, I am thinking of changing my mobile and thinking of having either a Windows Phone 7 or any other reasonably good mobile.

I am also in a dilemma like; Is it better to wait till Nokia WinMo comes out to market or buying (now) Samsung Omnia 7 or else have some general mobile (good one for time being) and straight away buying Nokia WinMo.
I think, it will easily takes at-least another 6 months for Nokia WinMo to get stabilize in all respects (Technically, Pricewise,….). Please let me know your views :-)

Can anybody compare and contrast Samsung Omnia 7 and HTC HD please?

    Thanks in Advance,
