WVGA Samsung QWERTY Slider coming soon?

omnia-pro HDBlog.it is passing on a hot tip regarding a new Samsung Windows Mobile smartphone coming early in Q3 2009. The device, which will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1, but with a 6.5 upgrade, will feature a 3.5 inch WVGA AMOLED 800×480 screen, 5 megapixel camera and QWERTY keyboard.

HDBlog goes on to say its likely to feature the same 624 Mhz processor as the Samsung Omnia, but possibly more ROM and RAM.

At present there is no pictures if the rumoured device, but they have gone on to make a rather attractive mock-up, which can be seen here. The device is said to be pretty cheap, retailing at around 500 Euro unlocked.

I love where this is going! Can I have 2 of those please?

I recently received an Omnia (for work purposes) and I absolutely love this phone! It misses VGA, but has better performance than the HTC’s I used, and it has this stupid virtual mouse feature which is actually a lot of fun.

Regarding the QWERTY version, I just hope it will not make the phone bulky and heavy as HTC Touch Pro – putting it in the pocket makes it look funny…

I am dismayed that Samsung stopped producing the very popular Blackberry style Blackjacks. They don’t seem to have a portrait mode qwerty keyboard device any longer?

It started with the Motorola (Q9?) and then the Samsung which did it better.

It was obvious that Samsung was aiming at Blackberry with the colour, style and even the name. It was hugely popular as they made three versions with successive upgrades so what gives !?

It was the most popular corporate phone in our company and lower the complaints from Blackberry advocates in our company!!

Does anyone know of any WM 6.1+ phones that fill this form factor?? Come on Samsung !

Anyone who know me know that the omnia is my best toy ever!
i use to study it and look really close at its form factor and i believe, the new verison can easily be the same thickness and have a keyboard. i just hope for my usual, it comes to verizon and the AMOLED screen means capacitive also??

In fact, i know for sure sprint would never get a phone like this simply because it may actually work well out of the box. Im willing to fork over 600+ on a phone that simply works

AMOLED does not neccesserily mean capacitative. What it does mean is you get a super bright display w/little power consumption, however due to the nature of the display you get pretty much no visibility in direct sunlight.

Thanks for the reply folks.
NOW here is a modified challenge for your brain boxes out there. The one problem with the Blackberry/Blackjack format is that the screen is quite small by todays standards

My perfect form factor is the Palm Pre because it has a larger screen and retains the blackberry (portrait style) keyboard.

Are there any windows mobile devices that have a larger screen and maintain the portrait keyboard form factor (it doesn’t have to be a slide out like the PRE but that certainly would keep the length of the device down to help single handed operation).
