We posted about this a few weeks ago, and now Yandex has confirmed that they will be the default search engine for Russian Windows Phone 8 handsets.
Devices shipped to the CIS countries, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine will all use their search engine.
The software will integrate more closely with the operating system, allowing searches from the address bar and also the search button using their search app (above). The application is already available in Nokia’s smartphones, coming to the HTC models with the next OS update in December.
The search engine has the majority of the market share in Russia, and is expected to meet the needs of Russian Windows Phone users much better than Bing.
