YouTube functionality confirmed, partially demoed on Windows Phone 7

Youtube app confirmed for Windows phone 7 There has been much concern over how YouTube will be functioning on Windows Phone 7. Fortunately this video, recorded at PAX 10, actually goes quite far to answer the question.

If one fast forwards to 3:30 one can see the user attempting to play a YouTube video, and being prompted to download the YouTube app (revealed here as a Media Hub Add-on).

While this solution of course works for the biggest video service in the world, a more general solution will have to wait for either an upgraded browser with HTML5 or Adobe’s Flash solution.

I figured a youtube app was a given at this point. Adobe could take god knows how long to bring flash to WP7, but that should come in the end. As for updating MIE, I wouldn't expect any HTML5 updates till desktop IE9 is done or at least at RC stage on the desktop. By that point the engine and code will be locked so the mobile IE team can get to work on shrinking it for the phone after that.

I figure we'll probably get a browser update 4-6 months after phones hit, just my guess though.

I'd rather see an integrated YouTube app pre-installed from the get-go. This reminds me of installing the optional media update on Xbox.

if it's not ready, then it's just not ready yet. I rather have a product that works well from the get-go at what it does.

I'm very happy with a separate youtube app that plugs into the zune-hub. This allows for better (more finger friendly) playback controls than using your fingers to control youtube's flash player.
Also, it's nice to see it integrates with the OS.

Besides that, i think watching on the website itself is still possible as soon as Adobe and MS have flash running correctly on the device.
