ZTE WP7 handset shows new square Windows Phone logo

Via Nanapho.jp again, we have some pictures of the ZTE Windows Phone 7 handset sporting the square Windows Phone 7 logo, first notices at the London Mango event in May and then when Nokia spoke about Windows Phone 7 at CommunicAsia in June. The logo is likely specific to Windows Phone Mango rather than the current version of the OS.

While the branding at the back of the device is fine, having it front and centre on the ear piece of the handset is likely a bit too much.

I think it’s a bad idea to strengthen the mental connection between Windows the computer OS and Windows Phone. It has been said over and over again that people do not have a favorable impression of Windows. Microsoft should be moving Windows Phone away from Windows branding and onto something else.

Of the LEGAL 400 millions Windows 7 users, I’m willing to be most of them have a favourable opinion of it.

The other 400 million illegal copies, well, they pirated it for a reason.

I whole heartedly agree, too much branding. One feature that I feel people love about the iPhone? No branding on the front. Nothing to distract your eye from what matters, the image on the screen. Lose the windows branding, lose the carrier branding, etc. Let the OS speak for itself.

These are notfinal products. I am sure it will be same like others in term of where to put those brands.

They will just be on the back… no big deal. If anything, only that phone will have it on the front, but I highly doubt it.

that branding on the front is just a placeholder for the carrier splash that will likely be there I’m sure. Just like the Blackberries that have a similar amount of space up there.

It doesn’t matter where the branding is on this phone, its a flipping ZTE, who cares?

About 3 people will buy this phone and 2 of those 3 people will exchange it due to a fault, the final one remaining person becomes a victim of natural selection.

Do not forget that ZTE is huuuuge in China. According to Wikipedia, ZTE sales was roughly 20% of the entire GSM-sales worldwide.. which is pretty impressive.

If WP can gain a foothold in China, even a 10% marketshare there will give MS many million new customers.

Granted, ZTE is massive, but a large amount of their phones are made for networks to brand as their own and are of poor quality and they also make a huge amount of Mobile Broadband sticks.
