Zune regional availability chart released

With the release of the Zune 4.8 Microsoft also released this chart of Zune service availability.

The chart confirms our earlier rumour of Australian availability, and does show more countries getting better service.

man… can we not ever see a phone that looks like that? a zune loaded phone that looks like the zune. If they want to further cement the connection to zune they could put in 32GB++ on board and a 6 month zune pass account along with it. With that kind of build quality and looks, and the right price, that thing will dominate.

Of course, since MS is officially staying out of WP7 hardware, and a good thing that is too, they’d have to find a partner… but that’d be almost as bad as making it themselves.

At the very least, some manufacturer take cues from the HD and give me something similar, just ok it with MS quietly so you don’t get your ass sued, and i’m happy, everyone wins.

What love are you speaking of?

Just installed 4.8. Can’t see anything different over 4.7. Marketplace still only includes links to Video and Apps. No Music or podcasts. “More on zune.net” links for artists say not available in your region and so artist bio, picture and related info does not sync to phone or Zune HD. Though their has never been a music marketplace in Canada their used to be a Canadian zune.net complete with artist pictures and profiles before the launch of Windows Phone 7. That info used to show up on my Zune HD. Something I want back more than the ability to purchase music.

In Germany Zune is great. But We really have some BIG things missing. For example when you play a songs at you phone the background doesnt change to the artist. And if you klick in the Zune Software “more about ….” you get : ouh this is not available in your country. So we really do NOT have a completed Zune Marketplace. It is the light version if the US Markteplace

But keep up the good work. I hope MS will do a HUGE step forward in 2012.

And in my company (2000 employees) we have a lot of Windows Phones in testing

i suppose that is why it says that the Zune Player is “not” available on the chart. At least they acknowledge the problem.

Belgium: Marketplace is accessible. It has been disabled for months for an unknown reason (maybe lack of translation into Dutch), but it’s back now.

In the Netherlands we can only rent films and buy apps at the moment.

I asked both MS and Nokia if there were any plans for things like Zune pass, on which Nokia answered:

“Thanks for the note. We have not yet announced publicly the plans around
entertainment, but we definitely understand the need of great music services in
countries around the world.”

The Dutch MS employee echoed this.

Nokia has it’s own Zune pass-like service in the Netherlands, Ovi Music Unlimited, so hopefully this get transferred to the rest of Windows Phone in the near future.

I really hope Microsoft could enable the Zune music marketplace in Taiwan. I love the Zune pass service. Well, at least we have the marketplace for apps now.

Zune music marketplace here pls! Because we don’t have Zune music marketplace, we don’t have ‘artist backgroud as wallpaper’ when plying music.

In the Netherlands we DO have marketplace for movies and apps, but no music. At the poster before me, updating by using the Zune software does not update to 4.8. You’ll have to update it yourself by going to the MS Download Center. Finally I can search apps for my first dutch windows phone =P

I can’t believe the Singaporeans get access to the app & games marketplace and Malaysia doesn’t… yet the phone is apparently supported.

How the heck do they plan on making any inroads if people can’t download ANY apps! (without having a bullshit live account pointing to Singapore and even then, no paid apps).

And this can’t possibly be a localization issue… I can’t think of any good reason for this except to slight the Malaysians for some reason… of course, neither do we get xbox live so no surprise to be honest.

Yet more punishing people that go out and get authentic hardware and software. Ridiculous.

Understand your feeling man. From the other neighbour (Indonesia) and we don’t have any marketplace too. Hell, Singapore is the only one in SEA with a working apps marketplace.

Still suspecting it’s something about how they run overseas business (with subsidiaries) and Redmond want those subsidiaries to manage the local marketplaces themselves.
But Singapore is the SEA region HQ afterall.

Note that Zune Marketplace availability doesn’tt necessarily mean Zune Music och Zune Pass availability. I live in Sweden and, according to the chart, have Zune Marketplace. The only items available in the Zune desktop application is “Apps” and “Videos”, however. Bummer!

It’s just sad to see how little progress has been made on rolling out Zune Music and Zune Pass services to other countries around the world. It’s just a killer service that enhances the whole Zune and WP7 experience to levels that no other music service can currently provide. It’s one of the strong points of differentiation to other platforms like iTunes, sadly only the US and Canada seem to benefit from it. I’ll have to keep pirating my music, would be ready to go with Zune Pass as soon as available over here (Netherlands).
